This week, Reception Rabbits have read 'Handa's Surprise'.

As part of our Understanding the World area of learning, children have started to think out where in the world Africa is- looking at a globe and thinking about Geography, and what it is- as they get ready for Year 1. Children could identify similarities and differences between Africa and where they live in England as Akeyo travels through the Savanah. They thought about the difference between the wild and a zoo.

Children applied their phonics knowledge to describe the fruits in the story.

They created a story map to sequence the events in the story. Children can retell their story using vocabulary such as Savannah, climate, environment and could recall the fruits, identifying the beginning, middle and end of the story.

We continued our learning on Africa by painting our own savannah habitats using water paints to create an African

Sunset and used charcoal to create silhouette of the animals in their natural habitat.

Children also used their junk modelling skills from the past few weeks to create safari trucks independently.

In Maths, the children continued with their larger number work, finding ways of making larger numbers by using 10 and adding more. They created towers using two different colours to show how this works.
