At Kidsgrove Primary School, our aim is to provide high-quality Physical Education that motivates, challenges and inspires all children to succeed. PE is an essential part of developing the whole child, helping pupils grow in confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership. We want every child to understand the importance of being active, to develop lifelong habits for health and wellbeing, and to leave Kidsgrove with the skills and motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Through Physical Education, children learn how to take care of their bodies, improve their fitness and understand the benefits of a balanced diet and active lifestyle. Our lessons encourage children to be creative and competitive, to face and overcome challenges and to work cooperatively as part of a team. They develop independence, responsibility and the confidence to try new activities and refine their skills.

PE also gives children opportunities to take on different roles such as leaders, referees, coaches and teammates. These experiences help build communication skills, problem-solving abilities and an understanding of fairness, respect and sportsmanship.

How We Teach PE

We use the PE Hub scheme, which provides a clear, progressive and engaging curriculum from Early Years to Year 6. This approach ensures that children build skills year by year while experiencing a broad and balanced range of sports and physical activities.

The scheme supports children to:

  • Develop fundamental movement skills (agility, balance, coordination)

  • Build physical confidence in gymnastics, dance, athletics and games

  • Learn the principles of invasion games, net/wall games and striking/fielding sports

  • Understand tactics, teamwork and fair play

  • Improve fitness, stamina and resilience

  • Apply skills creatively during performances, routines and team games

  • Enjoy physical activity and recognise its impact on their mental and physical health

Lessons are practical, inclusive and accessible for all children, ensuring everyone is supported to progress and achieve.
