This week, for our Understanding the World focus, Nursery have been learning about healthy choices. The children have focused on all different choices we can make to stay happy and healthy! They read the story "The boy who became what he ate".
We had a big focus on healthy eating, the children sorted "healthy and unhealthy" foods. They then created their own food plate by cutting and sticking their chosen foods for the plate. In the provision the children were provided lots of food to explore, to develop their understanding of healthy and unhealthy foods and different names. The children created their own activity using the food, to have a picnic where they had the chose the foods to make a healthy plate, with their friends. This was lovely to see taking place as the children used the provision correctly and used their imagination and creativity to explore foods!
In Maths, children were using their skills of showing more or less. The children were asked which container had more or less in the children had to point to the correct one, they were very good at this, even tricky ones. After they were asked to create their own, by making more in one container and less in the other. The children were very good at this and had a range of way from all the children to show this!
In the provision, the children had lots of activities set, to explore healthy choices. The children were able to bath the dolls and dress them, teeth brushing, making a healthy lunch box and lots of outside time for exercise!
On Thursday, the children had the opportunity to create their own fruit sticks! The children had to peel, chop and thread the fruits onto their skills, it is a very important skill for children to begin their cutting skills, under 1-1 supervision. The children were very proud of their fruit sticks and couldn't wait to take them home to eat!
Throughout, the week the children had lots of exercise activity to develop their gross motor and fine motor skills, such as threading pasta, throwing and catching, daily walks and using the trikes. After we had some calm down to share the importance of relaxing and sleeping to make sure we are ready for the next day!
