This week the children have been focusing on "Easter" for our Understanding of the World, the children have learnt what we might see on Easter such as Easter eggs, hot cross buns, chicks and bunnies. Children understood some people would go to church to celebrate and would have a yummy dinner with their families.

We have a lovely surprise this week from our class caterpillars and some of them have become butterflies, the children were amazed and so happy to see them turn from tiny caterpillars into butterflies. This was a lovely opportunity to recap our learning of the butterfly life cycle, the children had so much to share!

"They were small and got bigger and bigger and now butterflies" -Rosalie

"Pretty butterfly"- Freddie

In Literacy, the story book the children focused on was called "Dear Easter Bunny" by . This book was very funny as the Easter chicks made up their own Easter eggs for the Easter bunny, the children thought they were disgusting flavours! It encouraged a conversation after the story of what flavour the children would create from their own chocolate egg.

In the maths area, the children had the task to make the egg using the different coloured half eggs. This is important for colour recognition and understand putting two half eggs together makes a whole egg. In the construction area the children were encouraged to make Easter bunny a home to live in for when he needs a rest after delivering all the easter eggs

Focusing on fine motor skills, the children's challenge has been to create a chick by pushing the feathers on the holes in the strainers, this promotes hand-eye coordination. The children also had the opportunities to have a go at weaving through the easter eggs with ribbon. The children made some made effort with this activity.

This week we have had a huge focus on Arts and Craft for the children to explore different crafts and materials. The children have coloured lots encouraging them to stay in the lines to promote their fine motor skills. The children have created their own Easter cards and lots writing a message or/and their own name! They have created a Easter bunny mask and decorated their own eggs. The children have loved the creative side of this week as they have a range of items to reflect upon.

On Friday, we had our own Nursery easter egg hunt, where the children worked together to find the plastic eggs. Each child ended the hunt with one plastic egg each, at the end of the day the children exchanged their plastic egg for a real egg if they looked after their plastic egg all day! This was great to increase independence and responsibility for their own egg.
