Spring 2, Week 6
Science - Art and Nature
This week in science, Foxes have learnt about different types of trees. Looking at evergreen trees which keep their leaves all year round and deciduous trees which lose their leaves in the autumn, the children explored the properties of each leaf and how these can be easily recognised.
Using their new learning, the children utilised our forest school area by collecting different types of deciduous leaves and using these to create rubbings. Whilst making the artwork, the children discussed the most defining features of different types of leaves and how they could be seen in their pictures.
History - Children's lives in Victorian Britain
In history this week, Foxes have learnt about how Victorian children spent their leisure time. Looking at the difference in leisure time between rich and poor children, the children explored types of toys and games that were popular for both. As hopscotch was a popular game during this period, we took inspiration from this and went outside to draw and play our very own games!
''Poor children had to go to work so they didn't have as much time to play.'' - Esme
''Rich children could learn instruments and go on trips to have fun''. - Brianna
RE - Beginnings and Endings
In RE this week, Foxes have learnt all about the Easter story and the Holy week. Focussing on each day within the Holy week and the events that took place, the children created their very own crosses to show the story. Beginning with Palm Sunday and ending with Easter Sunday, the children discussed why this event is important for Christians around the World and how it can be celebrated.
Spelling - The 'ar' sound
In spelling, Foxes have focussed on 'a' that makes an 'ar' sound when read. Learning the rule when spelling words such as 'rather' and 'father', the children independently wrote these without using any prompts and used them in the correct context within a sentence.
PSHE - Citizenship
This week in PSHE, Foxes class have started to explore the concept of democracy. Exploring the meaning of 'democracy' and how this can be more simply defined as making a fair decision, the children discussed and debated everyday scenarios that could be fair or unfair. Working together, the children read four simple scenarios and used the cards to put them into the category which they deemed most suitable.
Computing - Block Coding
Continuing with their learning about block coding, this week in computing, Foxes have planned and designed their own set of coding. Using basic and input blocks, the children created their own short animations to perform a variety of functions. From text to symbols and music, each block of coding resulted in unique outcomes which the children were able to share with each other. Working together also allowed the children to evaluate their coding where improvements could be made and errors addressed.
