Summer 1, Week 4

The final half term of this school year is nearly upon us. Foxes class have had a fantastic final week of the Summer 1 term and have displayed an amazing attitude towards their learning once again. I hope that you all have a restful half term break and we cannot wait to see you again ready for the final term. Thank you for your support as always!

Reading - The Most Important Animal Of All

In reading this week, Foxes have used their inference skills to answer questions based on our current whole class text. The children used important skills of answering questions in full sentences and applied taught techniques to support their answers. They showed a fantastic comprehension of what they had read and enthusiasm towards their learning. The children also worked together to read the text and identify the 4 focus words for the week. The children used rulers to follow along with their partner, and used their scanning skills to identify the vocabulary.

History - The Stone Age

This week in history, Foxes have continued with their learning all about the Stone Age through exploring what houses would have looked like during this time. The children learnt about a Stone Age village called Skara Brae that had been discovered on the Orkney Isles. Exploring pictures of what this settlement looks like and features distinct in these houses, the children drew their own Stone Age houses making sure to include narrow doors, shelves to display their possessions, small beds and a hearth in the centre. Expanding on their new learning, the children discussed why the placement of these features was so important.

''The beds were around the edge so they could stay warm by the hearth.'' - Nellie

''People could put food that they had gathered on the shelves.'' - Ayrton

PSHE - Safety and the Changing Body

In PSHE this week, Foxes have explored what to do if they ever become lost. Discussing what to do such as staying calm, knowing the name of their grown up and finding a trusted adult, the children discussed effective ways to remain safe when in public areas. The children recorded their ideas in different ways from voice recordings and making short notes to show their understanding.

Geography - Weather in our World: Polar Climate

This week in geography, Foxes have learnt all about polar climates. Exploring the features of a polar climate including where this zone is located in relation to the Equator, the temperature, conditions and difference in sunlight between Summer and Winter, the children also learnt about how animals within these regions have adapted to their surroundings. To show their learning, the children created fact files and drew pictures related to the information included.

''Animals have blubber to keep them warm in the cold.'' - Isaac

''Some animals have thick fur and skin because they live close to ice.'' - Ariella

RE - Ceremonies: Dastar Bandi

Continuing to learn about ceremonies that are important in different religions, this week in RE, Foxes have learnt about a traditional Sikh ceremony. The children learnt about a ceremony called a Dastar Bandi which includes learning about the meaning of the turban, how to tie it and reciting hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture in Sikhism. The children answered questions about this ceremony whilst also discussing how young boys might feel during the lead up to this ceremony and the significance it will have on their life as a Sikh.

DT - Mechanisms: Making a Moving Monster

This week in DT, Foxes have created their own moving monsters. Using their designs from last week, the children brought these to life by using bright colours and split pins to create a moving mechanism. Look at how fantastic they all look❤️
