Reception Rabbits cant quite believe that its the Summer term! This half term the focus is on 'Our world- what makes it special'. Children will be learning about different countries such as Africa, and the similarities and differences between there and where they live. They will learn about Space and historical famous figures- things out of this world! They will use their imagination and think about what it would be like to live in Space! Comparing life on their planet to life on other planets. The new role play area has really excited the children. They will role play booking a holiday and finding different countries on the globe- even having a ride in their very own plane!

This week though, they started at the very beginning and thought about THEIR PLANET- planet Earth, the world we live in and how wonderful it is. Children have been invited to think about recycling and how we can look after our earth. In the Understanding the World focus, the children have identified that the natural world is vast and that there is so much more than the immediate world around them. They have learned to know the important features of how to keep their world clean, tidy and safe. The children have learned to recycle and learned how to share this with others.

In Literacy, the new Pathways to write focus is 'Clem and Crab'. Children will be exposed to new parts of the text during the next few weeks and will be encouraged to retell the story in their own words. The story delves into the necessity of keeping the beaches clean and tidy and the need to recycle and to pick up litter. Children used their literacy skills to write about what they could see as they picked up the litter on the beach.

In Maths children are thinking about numbers beyond 10, in particular numbers 10-13. Children can identify that when they have 10 and add some more, they have a teen number and they have built on the skill of counting within 10- they are learning to do quick maths and know that if 6 plus 3 makes nine, then 16 plus 3 is nineteen.

During art and design and technology, the children are learning the skill of design and linking it with the brief of recycling. They have used old packaging from their homes to design and create a junk model of their choice- to recycle the packaging that would otherwise be thrown in the bin.

The children were grateful for a spot of sun and PE was very exciting- using parachutes and ben bags when working as a team and practising our coordination skills with a ball and cones.
