Writing - My Name Is Not Refugee
This week in Writing, Squirrels have been writing diary entries inspired by Paddington Bear! The children imagined what it would be like to be Paddington Bear and wrote about a day in his life.
Maths - Measurement: Mass and Volume
In Maths this week, Squirrels have been learning all about mass and volume! The children practiced measuring different objects using balance scales.
Science - Plants: Deciduous and Evergreen Trees
This week in Science, Squirrels have been learning about different types of trees. The children discovered the difference between deciduous trees, which lose their leaves in autumn, and evergreen trees, which keep their leaves all year round. Then, the children went outside for a walk around the school grounds to spot some of these trees and to see how their leaves change with the seasons. To end the lesson, the children also made leaf rubbings by using what they had collected on their nature walk!
History - Stories about the Past: The Titanic
This week in History, Squirrels have been learning all about a very famous ship from the past… the Titanic! The children were so excited to explore this real-life story and find out what happened to the ship that was once called “unsinkable.” Firstly, the children learnt that the Titanic was a giant passenger ship that set sail in 1912. They discovered, that the ship travelled from Southampton in England all the way to New York in America. Many passengers were on board the ship, and the children found out that some were very rich, and others were starting new lives. The children were surprised to learn that the Titanic hit a big iceberg in the sea and sadly sank!
Geography - Seasonal Changes: Climate Change
This week in Geography, Squirrels started learning about something very important – climate change! The children found out how the world is changing, and what they can do to help keep the Earth safe and happy. The children learnt that the Earth is getting warmer because of pollution in the air and how this can make the weather change in ways that are not good. The children discovered that it can cause ice to melt, animals to lose their homes, and storms or floods to happen more often. After, Squirrels made a class list of ways that they can all help to fight climate change:
"Turn off lights and taps when you're not using them" - Archie
"Walk, scoot or cycle instead of using the car" - Sienna
"Recycle paper and plastic" - Olivia
