Spring 2, Week 4

Red Nose Day

Supporting Comic Relief, this week Foxes class have celebrated Red Nose Day! The children were invited to wear red items of clothing to commemorate 40 years of this fantastic cause.

Learning about why this day is important for children and their families across the country, as a class, the children took part in lots of fun activities and discussed ways that we could fundraise and raise money in the future.

Computing - Block Coding

In computing this week, Foxes have used different block codes to create a paper chain. Making sure that the sequence was followed, the children used strips of paper with the function of each block to show how important each each link is. They also discussed what could happen if one of the links was taken away and how this would impact on the overall outcome.

Reading - Sully the Seahorse

In reading this week, Foxes class have consolidated their inference skills based on a story called 'Sully the seahorse'. Focussing on the three main characters, the children discussed how each felt at different points of the story, supporting these inferences with evidence from images and the text. To show their learning, the children wrote a thought bubble for each character, using 'because' to extend their answers.

Art - Colour Splash

Following on from previous learning all about colour mixing, in art this week, Foxes have explored the terms 'shade' and 'hues'. The children created their very own colour wheels to display the different shades and hues of primary and secondary colours. Using crayons as this week's art medium, the children also focussed on their accuracy when shading and how to alter the pressure applied to the paper to create light and dark.

Spelling - Adding the suffix '-er'

This week in spelling, Foxes have learnt how to add the suffix '-er' to spell words such as 'cuter', 'maker' and 'braver'. Becoming more confident in applying the spelling rule to a variety of words, the children displayed amazing focus and were able to identify and correct words where the rule had been used incorrectly.
