This week children consolidated their learning of ‘On the farm’ with a visit from Happy Hooves mini farm experience. Children really enjoyed the opportunity to stroke and feed animals such as llamas, donkeys, goats and sheep and had a wonderful time asking a real life farmer the jobs that they need to do to run a farm.

Children used their knowledge and shared it with the farmer who was very impressed at their understanding!

This week, in their Understanding the World focus children are learning about the seasonal changes in the Spring

‘Animals come out of hibernation now it gets warmer’-Isla

‘New baby animals are born like chicks hatching and baby lambs’- Chester

‘The days get longer because its lighter much earlier in the morning’- Reggie

‘Flowers start to grow from the ground, lots of pretty colours and daffodils are my favourite’- Cody

The children used their artistic observational skills to draw daffodils and their features.

They took pride in their art work as we approach the end of the EYFS- paying attention to detail and using their fine motor skills when completing accurate and detailed art work.

Children had a good go at using clay as their artistic media to create their own clay flowers- in preparation for out focus next week- the life cycle of a plant.

Children have been continuing their maths progression when finding numbers 9 and 10. Children are very skilful at subitising and the composition of numbers- using their skills in different contexts. Children are beginning to find patterns in their numbers when adding and subtracting.

In Literacy- we are thinking about non fiction texts alongside our Pathways to Write text ‘Something Else’. Children are thinking about diversity and planning their final write which is set to be a retell of the story. This week they have been thinking about how we could make Something Else feel better, what activities the creatures could do with him to make him feel valued.

They used oracy and talked together before writing.

‘We can play games with him’- Isla

‘We can climb trees!’- Thomas

‘We can play in the sand’- Chloe

‘We can play chase!’- Nancie

The children used HRS words and independent phase 3 digraph phonics knowledge to write, through a guided session. They used their personal and social skills to empathise with the characters which is a super skill to have at such a young age.

As always children had an abundance of opportunity to use their communication, language and interaction skills in our flower shop role play area alongside our indoor and outdoor provision. It has been lovely to spend time outdoors where the sun is shining! Children have continued with the physical development skills during PE and also during our outdoor clean up- where children worked as a team to make our outdoor area even better!

Children have made the most out of the great outdoors as they have seen a little hint of Mr. Sunshine this week! Children are working on their ball control skills and impressed their teachers greatly.
