Year 1

Energetic and Enthusiastic!

Year One like nothing better than being outside in Forest School. Come rain or shine they enjoy learning about themselves and their environment by taking risks and working as a team. And inside they are just as amazing, whether it be topic work, maths or English Year One always strive to achieve their best!

Summer Term 2019: Giants!

This term, in English, we will be consolidating our phonics knowledge and enjoying a range of traditional texts.  To fit in with the whole school theme of greatness we will be learning about giants when we read the traditional tale Jack and The Beanstalk.  In our science lessons we will be getting out and about around the school learning to recognise and name different plants, flowers and creatures that can be found. We've already got off to a flying start with our history topic on transport through the ages, we've loved learning all about the invention of steam trains.  It's going to be a busy and fun-filled term!

Spring Term 2019: Toys Our Grandparents Played With.

The children have worked on a number of cross-curricular themes; incorporating science, design technology and history. As well as having hands-on experience playing with ‘old-fashioned’ toys, they have explored and sorted the materials toys are made from. The children have also designed and made their own glove puppet, which has enabled them to learn to sew. Our topic has also been enhanced by a trip to Ford Green Hall, a local Tudor House, to learn about toys from the past. In addition to the P.E curriculum the children have participated in Forest School activities; building dens, making clay creatures and play outdoor games. These activities have developed their team-work and cooperation skills and appreciation for the outdoor environment. Forest School will be continuing throughout the year, enabling children to learn new outdoor skills, experience the changes in the environment at first-hand and develop life skills necessary for them to learn how to work together. This addition is certainly the highlight of many children’s week.
